To: Caroline Grossinger and Gary Grossinger:

I just wanted to send a quick note to share my experience at Grossinger Hyundai.

I had been shopping around for a crossover SUV/SUV for the past week. Hence, I’ve been through various sales pitches and the constant pressure to buy the car on the spot. However, what made me purchase a brand new Santa Fe at your location is because of the Sales Representative and the Sales Manager who assisted me with the purchase.

The Sales Representative, Alex, was very polite, helpful, considerate and pleasant. We initially looked at the Tuscan but realized that it didn’t meet our needs. Alex was very helpful! He just wanted to help me and my wife pick the right car and at no point did I feel that he was being pushy or aggressive, a feeling that most car buyers feel. After helping me and my wife pick the right car, the Sales Manager, Brian was very helpful in making sure that the SUV met our price range.

Overall it was a pleasant experience working with the entire team and I will certainly recommend this location to others.

Thank you!

What is the condition that has prompted Toyota to take this action?

In rare instances, there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.

What is the likelihood that my vehicle will experience this condition?

The incidence of this condition is rare and occurs gradually over a period time. It can occur when the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower to return or, in the worst case, stuck in a partially depressed position.

What should I do if I believe my vehicle is affected by this condition?, i.e. I have noticed that my accelerator pedal is hard to depress, slow to return or is unsmooth during operation.

The vehicle should be driven to the nearest safe location, the engine shut off and a Toyota dealer contacted for assistance.

What if you experience a sticking accelerator pedal while driving?

Each circumstance may vary, and drivers must use their best judgment, but Toyota recommends taking one of following actions:

If you need to stop immediately, the vehicle can be controlled by stepping on the brake pedal with both feet using firm and steady pressure. Do not pump the brake pedal as it will deplete the vacuum utilized for the power brake assist.

Shift the transmission gear selector to the Neutral (N) position and use the brakes to make a controlled stop at the side of the road and turn off the engine.

If unable to put the vehicle in Neutral, turn the engine OFF. This will not cause loss of steering or braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost.

If the vehicle is equipped with an Engine Start/Stop button, firmly and steadily push the button for at least three seconds to turn off the engine. Do NOT tap the Engine Start/Stop button.

If the vehicle is equipped with a conventional key-ignition, turn the ignition key to the ACC position to turn off the engine. Do NOT remove the key from the ignition as this will lock the steering wheel.

If I am an owner of one of the affected vehicles, what action do I need to take?

Toyota is working quickly to prepare a correction remedy and will issue owner notifications in the future. No action is required at this time unless you feel you are experiencing this condition. If you are experiencing this condition, immediately contact your nearest Toyota Dealer for assistance.

Grossinger City Autoplex houses 4 major brands: Toyota, Scion, Cadillac and Chevy, and occupies a full city block. The massive dealership boasts 4 floors, over 500 new cars in stock, 54 service bays and an indoor used-car showroom. Customers are given the royal treatment, having access to a full-service cafe, nail spa, shoeshine stand, three children’s playrooms with toys and chalkboards, laptops with Wi-Fi and a small library of books.

Grossinger City employees are also enjoying the new perks associated with working for Chicago’s largest auto dealership. There is a basketball gym and showers for employees.

Gary Grossinger says that beyond the luxury and technology of the new facility, the building is energy-efficient, and he hopes to win Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Grossingers admit that opening the new facility during a shaky economy wasn’t ideal. “I could have pulled the plug,” said Gary Grossinger, “But I chose not to because I really believe in this market.”

Grossinger City Autoplex is located at the North and Clybourn Avenue retail corridor. Consumers can learn more information online at http://www.grossingercityautoplex.com/

Dear Ms Grossinger:

Not long ago I purchased a 2010 Toyota Corolla at your dealership in Lincolnwood. As a result of my experience, I want to share some thoughts with you. I had researched the Corolla for some time and had decided to buy one when my current car broke down and I realized it was no longer feasible to continue to repair it. I embarked on the car buying experience with so much dread. I need to add that I am the type of individual, who, if pressured, I will simply walk away and refuse to buy from that individual. This is an experience I know many people share and the auto industry has a reputation for pressure tactics as many can attest to. My brother purchased two new Toyotas in the last few years from Carmax in Kenosha and his experience with them was very positive. He strongly recommended them so I spoke with them numerous times over the phone and was actually planning to purchase from them. I did decide, however, to speak with a dealer closer to my home so I came to Grossinger.

When I walked into your dealership, it was like a madhouse due to the Cash for Clunkers. I spoke with a gentlemen by the name of Dean Maruyama and I can honestly say is the reason I decided to come back a few nights later to negotiate a price. We agreed on a price which was actually much better than the price I got at Carmax and I must say I did not feel pressured in the least, or I would have simply gone elsewhere.

I was impressed with Dean’s sincerity and professionalism. He assured me more Corollas were on their way and he would make sure one was held for me. Although I had to wait about two weeks, Dean said he would call me and keep me up on the situation. When the Corollas did arrive, Dean was sick at home but called me to encourage me to go in and pickup the car. He said his associate, Mike Curtiss would help me. I went to your dealership that night and not only did Mike handle everything in a professional manner, but also Rob Eberwin and your finance manager Agata Klos. And again, none of these people were unduly pressuring in any way. I realized also that these folks could of easily sold the car to someone else, (your dealership was still very busy) but everyone kept their word…saving it for me.

So in conclusion, I wanted to write this letter to convey to you, the owner, what a positive car buying experience I had on account of these professionals mentioned. I will not hesitate to not only recommend your Toyota North dealership, but also these employees that I dealt with that help make up your sales team.

Sincerely

Jonathan Hanes

The wildly popular Cash for Clunkers program has been so successful that on August 6th, Congress voted to add an additional $2 billion in funding for the program. When Carolyn was asked how long the program will last she said,

”At the pace we are seeing at our store and when you consider 20,000 dealers are in the program, the funding cannot last much past Labor Day Weekend.”

Grossinger Motors operates multiple franchises in Illinois including Toyota, Scion, Cadillac, Buick, Suzuki, Chevrolet and Hyundai. Caroline is pleased to announce their latest store to open: Grossinger Kia in Lincolnwood.

You can visit their new store at www.kiagrossinger.com

From the sales traffic seen at Grossinger locations in Illinois Carolyn makes one last recommendation

“If you are planning to take advantage of the $3,500 and $4,500 Cash for Clunkers rebates make sure you get out and shop before the end of August”.

The Grossinger Autoplex is massive. It’s a maze of cars, customers and jobs. The last point is one of the more pressing reasons why plenty of people in the business say that any plan to close dealerships would be too painful.

“That’s the concern about closing these dealers is that I personally do not want to see these dealers close because it’s a lot of jobs,” said Caroline Grossinger.

Grossinger responded to the content of the open letter to the president’s auto industry task force. It appeared in newspapers today. It was from the chair of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, who says the plan to cut 2,600 general motors dealerships would be a disaster.

“Car dealerships are, if not the largest source of sales tax, one of the largest sources of sales tax,” said Tim Wiberg of Lincolnwood.

Caroline Grossinger says; why not simply allow the weak dealerships to fail on their own?

“I think we would naturally lose and the ones that, that continue would be the ones that could survive,” said Grossinger.

That’s not the view among the task force members. They believe one way to save General Motors is to cut the number of GM Dealerships to reduce expenses. That would mean fewer places for you to buy a car or get yours serviced.

That would be an inconvenience, which is certainly not pleasant, but far less daunting than the prospect of substantial job cuts, which may now be an unavoidable part of the plan to save GM
